I think that just trying things, and seeing which  you like best. I will admit sometimes it comes down to my mom always used it. Like I used to be stuck on Tide only. but now, my husband does a lot of the shopping and he buys what's on sale. Sometimes store brand even, and so long as my clothes get clean, it's all good.
